Privacy notice

This site is a simple set of pages about a book. It has no forms, no accounts, no newsletter and no analytics scripts. This notice explains the small amount of personal data that is still processed when you visit, and your rights under Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019) (PDPA).

Who is responsible

The data controller for athichaikotub.com is Athichai Kotub Ounkomol, an individual based in Bangkok, Thailand.

What the site does and does not do

  • No forms or sign-ups. The site does not ask for your name, email address or any other details, and has no newsletter, comments or contact form.
  • No analytics or advertising. The pages load no analytics, advertising or social media scripts, and no third-party embeds such as videos or maps.
  • No tracking cookies of its own. The site does not set cookies or use similar technologies to track you.
  • Fonts and files are self-hosted. Fonts (Hanken Grotesk, Newsreader and Noto Sans Thai), images and styles are served from this site itself, not from Google Fonts or another font service or CDN.

Hosting and security: Cloudflare

The site is hosted and delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. When your browser requests a page, Cloudflare necessarily receives technical information about the request, such as your IP address, browser and device type (user agent), the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time. Cloudflare uses this information to deliver the site, keep it secure and protect it against abuse, for example by blocking malicious traffic. Cloudflare may also ask your browser to report network errors, and may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to check that a visitor is not an automated bot.

Athichai Kotub Ounkomol does not use this information to identify visitors and does not combine it with other data. Cloudflare processes it under its own privacy policy and keeps it for the limited periods described there. Cloudflare operates a global network, so this technical data may be processed outside Thailand, with safeguards provided by Cloudflare's data protection terms.

The legal basis for this processing is legitimate interest (PDPA Section 24(5)): keeping a public website online, working and secure.

Links to Amazon and other sites

The “Kindle on Amazon” and “Paperback on Amazon” links are ordinary links to Amazon.com. They are not affiliate links, and nothing about you is sent to Amazon until you click one. Once you are on Amazon, Amazon's own privacy notice applies.

Your rights under the PDPA

Subject to the conditions in the PDPA, you have the right to:

  • access and get a copy of personal data about you, and ask how it was obtained;
  • have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected;
  • have data deleted, destroyed or anonymised;
  • object to processing, or ask for it to be restricted;
  • receive or transfer data in a readable format, where this applies; and
  • complain to the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) of Thailand, through the Office of the PDPC at pdpc.or.th.

Because the site itself collects almost nothing, there may be little or no data about you to provide. Requests about Cloudflare's logs may need to be handled with Cloudflare, and help with that is available on request.
